Tesla Referral Code and the New Model Y L (July 2026)

Tesla launched the Model Y L — a six-seat, three-row version of the Model Y — on July 2, 2026. Within a day I had readers asking the obvious question: does my referral code's FSD trial apply to this new configuration the same way it does to the regular Model Y? Here's where I stand as of today.
What actually launched
The Model Y L went on sale in the US and Puerto Rico on July 2, 2026, starting at $61,990 for the Launch Series. It's roughly 180 mm (about 7 inches) longer than the standard Model Y, seats six in a 2+2+2 layout, and is rated for approximately 325 miles of range. Full 2026 Model Y pricing, all-in with the $1,640 fee, now spans from $41,630 for the Standard RWD up to $63,630 for the Model Y L.

Does the referral code's FSD trial apply to the Y L?
My program data lists "Model Y" as a fully eligible model for the referral trial, without carving out specific trims the way it does for Cybertruck (where Dual Motor AWD is excluded). The Model Y L is a configuration of Model Y, not a separate model line, so logically it should carry the same 3-month FSD trial. I want to be straight with you: I haven't personally completed a Y L order yet to confirm this with my own eyes, the way I have for the standard Model 3 and Model Y. Treat this as my best reading of the program rules, not a first-hand confirmation.

What to actually check at checkout
Whatever model or trim you're ordering, my standing advice doesn't change: open the referral link before you configure, build the car, and look for the FSD trial line item in your order summary before you pay. That's the one screen that tells you definitively whether the benefit attached — for a brand-new trim like the Y L, it matters even more than usual, since I can't yet promise you it's guaranteed to show up the same way it does on a standard Model Y.
Why I'm not just assuming eligibility and moving on
It would be easy to write "yes, it's eligible" as flat fact and never revisit it. I'd rather tell you exactly how confident I am — which, for a model that's four business days old as I write this, is "reasonably confident based on the program's own eligibility rules, not yet independently confirmed." That distinction matters more to me than sounding certain.
