“Does the code work on this?” is worth asking the day before a Cybertruck order rather than after it, because some builds get nothing from the referral program at all. Here's exactly which, and why.
The trap: not every Cybertruck trim is in the program
the buyer's first configuration was a Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD — the lower-priced trim. He didn't know that Tesla's referral program explicitly excludes it. Only the Premium AWD and Cyberbeast trims carry the referral benefit on Cybertruck. Model 3 and Model Y don't have this split — every trim on those two is eligible — which is exactly why buyers assume a Cybertruck build will work the same way.

Opening the link first still mattered
Even on an eligible trim, the buyer opened my referral link before touching the configurator, exactly like I'd tell a Model 3 or Model Y buyer. That part of the process doesn't change by model — it's the eligibility check that's specific to Cybertruck.

He placed his Premium AWD Cybertruck order the next day. The order summary showed the 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial — worth about $297 at Tesla's $99/month price — as a line item before he paid. No solar add-on this time, so that part of his benefit didn't apply, but the FSD trial confirmed correctly.
Why a trim list goes stale even when eligibility doesn't change
One thing worth adding to the table above, because it's the reason lists like it can mislead a year later. Eligibility is maintained per trim — but trim names themselves change. Tesla has renamed and repackaged variants repeatedly across its line-up: Foundation Series, Launch Series, Premium, Standard, Long Range, Performance. When a name is retired or a new one introduced, an external list stays technically accurate about the old names while describing configurations you can no longer order.
So a page like this can be wrong in two different ways, and only one of them is about the programme:
- Eligibility drift — a trim genuinely gains or loses the benefit. This is what everyone watches for, and it's the rarer of the two.
- Naming drift — the benefit hasn't moved, but the trim you're looking at didn't exist when the list was written, so it appears on no row at all. Absence from a list is not the same as exclusion from the programme.
Which is why the only check that holds is the one you do inside your own order: match the exact trim name as your configuration states it, and look for the benefit as a line item before you pay. If your trim isn't on a list you found — including this one — that's a reason to verify rather than a reason to conclude you get nothing.
The lesson for anyone ordering a Cybertruck
If you're referral-code shopping for a Cybertruck, don't assume it behaves like Model 3 or Model Y. Confirm your trim against the table above before you get to checkout, and if you're on the fence between Dual Motor AWD and Premium AWD for reasons that have nothing to do with the referral perk, decide on those reasons — the FSD trial shouldn't be what tips a trim decision that changes your price by thousands of dollars.
