Tesla Referral Link on a Real Cybertruck Order (2026)
By David · Published
A reader named Derek emailed me on July 8, 2026, the day before his Cybertruck order, to send me his configuration link and ask “does your code work on this?” Good thing he asked — his original build would have gotten him nothing from the referral program at all, and here's exactly why.
The trap: not every Cybertruck trim is in the program
Derek's first configuration was a Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD — the lower-priced trim. He didn't know that Tesla's referral program explicitly excludes it. Only the Premium AWD and Cyberbeast trims carry the referral benefit on Cybertruck. Model 3 and Model Y don't have this split — every trim on those two is eligible — which is exactly why Derek assumed his Cybertruck build would work the same way.
| Cybertruck trim | Referral benefit |
|---|---|
| Dual Motor AWD | Not eligible — no referral benefit at all |
| Premium AWD | Eligible — 3 months free FSD (Supervised) |
| Cyberbeast | Eligible — 3 months free FSD (Supervised) |
What I told Derek before he ordered
I sent him the trim list above and told him to check his own budget first — I never suggest upgrading a trim purely to catch a referral perk, since the price difference between Dual Motor AWD and Premium AWD is far bigger than the 3-month FSD trial is worth. Derek's own reply: “I was already leaning toward Premium AWD for the range anyway, so it worked out, but I'd have been annoyed to find out after ordering.”

Applies 3 months of free FSD (North America) or free Supercharging (Europe) on eligible trims.

Opening the link first still mattered
Even on an eligible trim, Derek opened my referral link before touching the configurator, exactly like I'd tell a Model 3 or Model Y buyer. That part of the process doesn't change by model — it's the eligibility check that's specific to Cybertruck.
Derek's order, July 9, 2026
He placed his Premium AWD Cybertruck order the next day. The order summary showed the 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial — worth about $297 at Tesla's $99/month price — as a line item before he paid. No solar add-on this time, so that part of his benefit didn't apply, but the FSD trial confirmed correctly.
The lesson for anyone ordering a Cybertruck
If you're referral-code shopping for a Cybertruck, don't assume it behaves like Model 3 or Model Y. Confirm your trim against the table above before you get to checkout, and if you're on the fence between Dual Motor AWD and Premium AWD for reasons that have nothing to do with the referral perk, decide on those reasons — the FSD trial shouldn't be what tips a trim decision that changes your price by thousands of dollars.
