Coverage framed it as a deliberate strategic shift away from the near-continuous price-cutting Tesla had run through the prior two years, rather than a one-off adjustment.

Does this change when you should order?
For two years, waiting on a Model Y almost never cost anything — prices only went down. This is the first real signal that the assumption doesn't automatically hold on every trim going forward. If you were already leaning toward a Premium or Performance configuration, there's now a small, real cost to delaying that wasn't there before. If you're on Entry RWD or AWD, nothing changed for you at all — those prices held, so there's no new urgency on that trim specifically.
I wouldn't read this as "prices will keep climbing" — one increase after two years of cuts is a data point, not a trend line. But it does mean the old default of "it'll probably be cheaper next quarter" is no longer something to assume without checking.
What it doesn't change
