What Changed With the Tesla Referral Link in 2026

A reader named Sam sent me a screenshot of an old blog post in July 2026 that still described "$1,000 off" and "free Supercharging" as the US referral benefit. It's wrong now, and it's not the only thing that's changed this year. Here's the honest, dated changelog.
March 2026: the North American overhaul
The biggest single change this year. Tesla replaced the old cash-style discount with 3 months of free Full Self-Driving (Supervised) — worth about $297 at $99/month — for Model 3, Model Y and eligible Cybertruck orders in North America. At the same time, Model S and Model X were removed from the referral program entirely; buyers ordering either model today get no referral benefit, referral code or not.

April 2026: Europe's Supercharging benefit doubled
Tesla increased the European free-Supercharging benefit to about 2000 km (~1300 miles) in April 2026 — roughly double the prior figure. This applies across the EU markets I track (UK, Netherlands, France, Spain, Germany, Norway), all currently in the same reward tier because FSD (Supervised) isn't yet approved for public use across most of the region.
What's shifting right now: the Netherlands
This is the change still in progress as I write this. The Netherlands became the first EU market to approve FSD (Supervised) for public use, and Tesla may switch the Dutch referral benefit from Supercharging to an FSD trial as a result — but that switch hadn't fully rolled out as of this post's last-reviewed date. If you're ordering in the Netherlands, check the exact benefit shown at checkout rather than trusting either figure from a page that isn't dated this month.
What hasn't changed
- The referrer reward: $250 in Tesla Credits per successful referral, capped at 10/year — unchanged all year.
- Australia's cash-style discount (≈ A$1,400) — Tesla relaunched this format there and it's held steady since.
- The mechanic itself: apply the code or link before you finish configuring, at checkout, with no account required.
Why Sam's old bookmark was dangerous
Sam had bookmarked a referral page in 2025 and assumed the numbers on it were still current in July 2026 — a completely reasonable assumption for a normal web page, but a costly one for a program that Tesla revises multiple times a year. He told me: “I almost quoted the old $1,000 figure to a friend before I checked your page and saw it had actually changed twice since then.”
